Do you hear the people sing? They’ve been singing in the West End for an astonishing four decades! Yes, this autumn the revolutionary musical favourite Les Misérables celebrates its 40th anniversary in London:
What is Les Misérables about?
Set in 19th-century France, Les Misérables follows the story of Jean Valjean, an ex-convict who tries to rebuild his life after serving 19 years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread. Valjean becomes a respected industrialist, but is relentlessly pursued by the rigid Inspector Javert, who refuses to believe a man can change.
The story spans decades, weaving together themes of justice, sacrifice, love, and revolution, set against a backdrop of sweeping music and unforgettable characters like Fantine, Cosette, Marius, Éponine, and the revolutionary students of Paris.
