Beamish Mini Break
1 Night
Day 1 – Saturday the 12th of June 2027
Our holiday begins as we depart Southend-on-Sea from 8:00am, making our usual convenient pick-up points before joining the motorway for our journey north.
Travelling via the M25, M11, A1(M) and A19, we will make a comfort break of approximately 45 minutes, giving you the opportunity to purchase refreshments and stretch your legs before continuing our journey.
We expect to arrive at the Washington Premier Inn around 3pm for check-in, the evening is your own free time.

Within about 5–20 minutes you’ll find:
- Washington Old Hall – the ancestral home of George Washington’s family (5 minutes).
- Washington Wetland Centre – excellent for wildlife, walking and birdwatching (10 minutes).
- Penshaw Monument – panoramic views across the North East (10 minutes).
- The Galleries Shopping Centre – shops, cafés and supermarkets (5 minutes).
- Angel of the North – around 15 minutes away.
- Metrocentre – one of Europe’s largest shopping centres (15–20 minutes).
- Newcastle city centre is about 20 minutes away by car.
Is it a good base?
Yes. It’s particularly well placed if you’re planning to visit:
- Beamish – The Living Museum of the North
- Newcastle city centre
- Durham Cathedral (about 25 minutes)
- The Durham Dales or the Northumberland coast as day trips.
For a Beamish-focused visit, this Premier Inn is one of the more convenient and reasonably priced options in the area, especially if you’re driving.
Day 2 – Sunday the 13th of June 2027
Following a hearty breakfast, the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace .
Departing around 10pm we will take you to the Beamish Living Museum of the North (Price included) (only 8 miles from the hotel).
Step back in time as you wander through faithfully recreated streets, homes, farms and businesses spanning the 1820s, early 1900s, 1940s and 1950s. Ride vintage trams and buses, browse traditional shops, meet costumed staff and experience everyday life from years gone by in one of the UK’s most celebrated living museums.
We will depart Beamish at approximately 4:00pm. A comfort break will be made en route before we continue south to our usual drop-off points, arriving back in Southend-on-Sea at approximately 11:00pm, bringing a wonderful short break to a close.

Full price per person £225 incl travel, accommodation bed & breakfast , museum entry
Deposit: £50per person (non-refundable)
Balance: £175 per person, payable by the end of February 2027.
